With ITMS cameras on major Delhi roads, many drivers don’t even know they have a challan until it reaches court. Checking regularly takes two minutes and can save you from a summons. Here’s how to check your Delhi traffic challan online.
3 Official Places to Check Delhi Challans
| Portal | What you’ll find |
|---|---|
| echallan.parivahan.gov.in | All e-challans linked to your vehicle/DL, with pay option |
| traffic.delhipolice.gov.in | Delhi Traffic Police notices, Lok Adalat and Evening Court links |
| vcourts.gov.in | Challans forwarded to the Delhi Virtual Court (Traffic) |
Method 1: Check by Vehicle Number
- Open echallan.parivahan.gov.in → Check Challan Status.
- Select Vehicle Number.
- Enter the registration number (e.g. DL3CAB1234) and the last digits of the chassis/engine number if asked.
- Enter captcha and submit. You’ll see all pending and disposed challans.
Method 2: Check by Challan Number
If you received an SMS with a challan number, choose Challan Number and enter it. This is useful to verify whether an SMS is genuine – a real challan will show up on the government portal. Beware of fake e-challan SMS scams.
Method 3: Check by Driving Licence Number
Choose DL Number to see challans issued against your licence, regardless of the vehicle.
Understanding the Status
- Pending – with the traffic police; you can pay online.
- Sent to Virtual Court – pay or contest at vcourts.gov.in. See Virtual Court guide.
- Sent to Regular Court – settle in Lok Adalat, Evening Court, Weekend Court or the regular court.
- Disposed – closed; keep the receipt.
What If You See a Challan You Don’t Recognise?
Check the photo evidence, date, time and location. If the vehicle was sold, elsewhere, or has a cloned number plate, don’t just pay – contest the wrong challan with proof.
Make It a Habit
Check your challans every month, and always before selling a vehicle, renewing insurance or applying for an NOC. Find all options for clearing challans on our Delhi traffic challan page.
