If your Delhi e-challan status says “Virtual Court”, you don’t need to rush to a courtroom. The Virtual Court lets you deal with petty traffic offences fully online. Here’s how it works.
What Is the Virtual Court?
Under the eCourts project, Virtual Courts handle traffic challans digitally. A judicial officer reviews the challan and proposes a fine online. You can accept and pay it, or choose to contest. Delhi has a dedicated Virtual Court for traffic challans.
How to Find Your Virtual Court Challan
- Go to vcourts.gov.in.
- Select Delhi and then Delhi (Traffic Department).
- Search using challan number, vehicle number, mobile number or CNR number.
- Open the case to see offence details and proposed fine.
Paying the Proposed Fine
Click Pay, enter mobile OTP and pay via UPI, card or net banking. Save the receipt. The case is disposed once payment is confirmed.
Contesting a Virtual Court Challan
If you believe the challan is wrong – vehicle sold, cloned number plate, photo mismatch, emergency situation – you can choose not to accept the proposed fine. The case then goes to a regular court where you can present evidence. An advocate can help you draft the reply and appear. More: how to contest a wrong traffic challan.
What If You Ignore It?
If the proposed fine is not paid within the time allowed, the matter can be sent to a regular court and you may receive a summons. Unresolved challans can also block Parivahan services such as RC transfer. Read what happens if you don’t pay a challan.
Can’t Find Your Challan in Virtual Court?
| Reason | What to do |
|---|---|
| Still with traffic police | Pay on Parivahan |
| Moved to regular court | Use Lok Adalat, Evening or Weekend Court |
| Wrong search details | Try challan number or CNR instead of vehicle number |
