How to Check Challan by Vehicle Number
- Go to echallan.parivahan.gov.in → Check Online Services → Check Challan Status.
- Select Vehicle Number and enter the registration number (e.g. DL01AB1234).
- Enter the last digits of the chassis or engine number if asked, and the captcha.
- See all challans with status – pending, paid, or sent to court.
For Delhi, also check the Delhi Traffic Police site and Virtual Court portal, because court challans may not be payable on Parivahan.

Challans are attached to the registration number, not the owner. Before buying a second-hand vehicle, check the challan status and ask the seller to clear all pending challans – or adjust the price. Can I check challan without a chassis number?
Some portals ask for the last digits of the chassis or engine number for privacy. You can also search by challan number or DL number.
Who pays the challan after a vehicle is sold?
The person driving at the time of the offence is responsible. With proof of sale and date of handover, the previous owner can contest challans issued after the sale.
